On September 24th, the Invested Media team is heading to the Big Apple to cover Finovate, one of the biggest conferences in the World for banking and fintech. It should be a packed week of seminars and product demos from the most innovative companies in the financial industry.
We’re extremely excited to see what Finovate has prepared for us and here’s why you should be too.
What’s Finovate’s Background?
Finovate launched in 2007 with their NYC conference. They got off to a hot start as some of their initial presenters included Mint, Lending Club and Prosper, before they all hit it big.
From their first conference, Finovate expanded and now holds events in six locations around the World: New York, London, Silicon Valley, Hong Kong, Dubai and Cape Town.
For 2018, they have scheduled roughly 500 guest speakers and 300 fintech demos. On average, over 5,000 people attend their events per year including representatives from over 400 banks and financial institutions.
What Makes Them Unique?
When you check out fintech, you can only learn so much from a PowerPoint or marketing brochure. Finovate believes that their attendees will get a lot more out of seeing everything in-action. That’s why they use a demo-only format.
Companies have seven minutes max to show their off their products. They need to get to the point and actually prove why their technology is worth using.
Finovate saves videos of the demos on their website so if you can’t attend, you can still browse through over 1,000 archived presentations.
What’s on the New York Agenda?
The New York Finovate convention will last from September 24th through September 26th. The first couple days of the conference are all product demos whereas September 26th will be panel discussions and seminars from industry thought leaders.
On September 27th, Finovate is hosting an additional summit focused on blockchain and AI. They are holding the entire convention at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, right in the heart of Manhattan.
Some of the presenters include Alex Tapscott, co-author of Blockchain Revolution, Jim Marous, publisher of the Financial Brand and the Digital Banking Report, Brett King, the CEO and founder of Moven, and representatives from the innovation groups of Wells Fargo, BNY Mellon, Deutsche Bank and BNP Paribas Cardif.
You Should Attend If
If you are trying to get your ideas and technology in-front of decision makers at banks and other financial institutions, Finovate is the right place. Roughly 45 percent of the attendees are representatives from these companies who are researching ways to modernize their systems.
Since Finovate offers over 300 live demos, it’s excellent way to browse through the latest fintech innovations quickly. They’ve put together a list of the presenting companies and the problems their new product is trying to solve so you can figure out what demos to attend.
Finally, Finovate understands people come to events to network and has made that a priority. Every day has time blocked off for networking. In addition, once you register you get access to Brella. With this app, you can create a profile and it will match you with other attendees interested in your services or industry. You can schedule time to meet during and after the convention through Brella.
The Invested Media team should leave Finovate with a new appreciation for the latest developments in fintech. We hope to see you there.
